Slant
Feet are symmetrical – not identical. They are mirror images of each other, and I like my socks to reflect this.
These socks feature a simple slanting stitch pattern that is reversed on the opposite foot. The heels sport a slipped stitch pattern that creates a further variation on the slanting theme.
This pattern is especially well suited to variegated yarn. The long loop stitches use just a bit more yarn than regular stitches, so some rounds take more yarn than others. This helps prevent the pooling and flashing that can sometimes be a problem with handpainted yarns.
I have it on good authority that, with the right yarn choice, the pattern might even pass muster with the guys.
The pattern is free and you can download it here. Note, an updated version of the pattern was posted in September 2010. If you downloaded it before then, I suggest grabbing the newer version.
