Propitiate: \prō-ˈpi-shē-ˌāt\ transitive verb
- to gain or regain the favor or goodwill of, to appease
After living in our house for just over three years, The Boy and I finally decided to bite the bullet and have a patio installed in our back yard. In the week between signing the contract for the patio and the start of construction, our upstairs bathroom sprung a leak. It was a large leak – the sort of leak that runs down the wall of the room below and floods the basement.
Our house is almost 90 years old, and the plumbing is more than a bit eclectic. The needed repairs were both extensive and expensive. We joked that the house was angry at us for spending money on the yard and needed to be appeased with a monetary offering. During the renovations, we went to a fiber festival, and The Boy found a ball of lovely green yarn. Money colored yarn when you got right down to it.
With that, Propitiate was born. This top down sock features a double column of coin-shaped motifs running down the outside of the leg and foot, and a sprinkling of the same little coins scattered over the body of the sock. Directions for an alternate version of the foot with straight, rather than slanted ribbing is included.
