This website started as a place to host the pattern for the Popped socks. I thought ten or fifteen people would download it. It turns out several thousand people have.

PoppedPopped was my first attempt at pattern writing, and frankly, it shows. Despite the rough spots, people seem to really like the pattern. Several knitters got in touch with suggestions for modifications and improvements to the pattern. Even more knitters contacted me suggesting it was good enough to charge for. I was flattered, but I didn’t think the pattern as it was first released was polished enough to sell.

I’ve given it a lot of thought, and have reached a compromise. The first version, flaws and all, is still available as a free download. In addition, a second more polished version is also available for a small fee for those who would like to have a more complete pattern and those who would like to support my design efforts.

Writing a pattern is not a trivial undertaking. Between writing the text, charting the designs, taking the pictures, editing, and working with test knitters, I spend between 20 and 30 hours preparing a pattern. If you think that 20 hours of my time is worth four dollars of your money, I’d really appreciate it.

popped2_2The new version features better pictures, step by step directions for the heel, and an extra set of charts that allow you to do far fewer twisted stitches than called for in the original patten, something many knitters have requested.

You do not need to have either a Ravelry account or a PayPal account to buy it. If you want the older version for free, you can still get it here.
