Cozy
Published On: December 11, 2011

I don’t generally fall prey to the cozy craze.  My teapot goes about scandalously unclothed, as does my toilet paper, my coffee cup, and a surprisingly number of other things in this house.  I’ve not yet suffered any noticeable ill effects from this tendency to dishabille, but then I like to live dangerously.

Which is why I was rather surprised when I found myself knitting a wrapper (perhaps if I call it that it won’t seem so cozy-like) for a friend’s french press.  But it seems their coffee sometimes gets cold before they finish it, and they were amused by the idea, so I went for it. I grabbed a super thick yarn in a variegated color (to hide the inevitable coffee drips).  I choose a stitch pattern that was lofty in the hopes that it would be insulating.  I dashed off a quick rectangle (it’s only 12 stitches wide) and whacked on some buttons.  The resulting fabric is stretchy (on the off chance they get a different press or in case my measurements–taken after a few beers–were a bit off), and the buttons can just pass through at any point, so it’s adjustable.

It’s being modeled here by the crock I use to hold my spindles, but I’m pretty sure it will soon be put to service in a more caffeinated role.
